- he was a soldier who experienced battle and became governor in 1672
- traveled up the St Lawrence River with 400 soldiers
- he invited the Iroquois to meet him at Cataraqui (now called Kingston)
- he entertained the Iroquois for 4 days while his soldiers built an armed fort they called Fort Frontenac
- the Iroquois people could see that Frontenac was determined, which was a highly esteemed quality among them
- Frontenac was quite respectful towards the Iroquois and invited their chiefs to come to Fort Frontenac to sell their furs and supplies - this was to their advantage because it saved them a trip and he promised them that French goods would be cheaper at the fort than at any other French settlement
- during his time as governor, there were no Iroquois raids on French Settlements
